Charles King Dip.S.C.Sur

Charles King is our qualified engineer and surveyor. He has a vast knowledge and practical experience of narrow boats and other steel vessels and is fully insured and qualified as a small craft surveyor. He completed his diploma in small craft surveying with the Lloyds Maritime Academy in 2011, gaining a distinction with accreditation in Inalnd Waterways, Canal Craft and small commercial craft.

Charles has had an interest in the waterways since childhood and his career in the leisure boating industry began as a teenager, when during school holidays he would help out at the boatyard where his parents’ boat was moored.

On leaving school he gained a BTEC national diploma in mechanical engineering, and following this worked for various plant and machinery dealers and manufacturers where he gained a wealth of experience in a number of areas, including agriculture, renewable energy, inshore oil and gas production and the marine sector.

His job took him all over the country and he regularly worked in the Midlands, Yorkshire, and North East Lincolnshire as well as commercial docks, and the ports of the tidal river Trent and Lincolnshire coast.

During his time as a marine engineer working at several busy boatyards in the Midlands, he has gained plenty of experience in welded hull repairs and over-plating, superstructure modifications, engine and gearbox replacements and repairs, stern tube overhauls, fit-outs and associated plumbing and electrics.
